Tom Brady’s pick for 2025 NFL MVP isn’t going to sit well with New England Patriots fans.

When given the option to pick between the top two candidates for the award – Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford – the Patriots legend didn’t show any franchise favoritism.

Tom Brady picks Matthew Stafford over Drake Maye as NFL MVP

Though he acknowledged the special season that Maye had in New England, Brady went with Stafford as his pick and cited Stafford’s impressive touchdown total as a deciding factor. The 46 TDs that Stafford tossed this season is tied for the fifth-highest total of all time.

“I don't get a vote. I think what Matthew Stafford has done this season has been absolutely remarkable,” Brady said. “46 touchdowns, for any quarterback, that’s a dream season. So, he’s been spectacular....  I would say Matthew Stafford.”

But, while Brady thinks Stafford is deserving of the league's most prestigious individual award this season, he acknowledged that Maye – who is just 23 years old and in his second season in the league – will likely have multiple opportunities to win the award in the future given his talent.

“Drake Maye, on the other side, has done some incredible things with Josh McDaniels in their first year together. Drake’s got a long career ahead," Brady said. "I’m sure he’s going to have many opportunities [to win MVP]."

Both Maye and Stafford are deserving of the award, but only one guy can win, and Stafford having the statistical edge could swing the results in his favor.

Stafford threw for 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns, while Maye totaled 4,394 yards and 31 TDs. However, Maye's Patriots finished with a better record (14-3) than Stafford's Rams (12-5).

Even if Maye doesn't win the award this season, Patriots fans can take solace in the fact that their second-year quarterback is even in MVP conversations to begin with. That's pretty impressive. Brady was the guy for two decades, but now there's a new franchise quarterback in New England.
