Stephen A. Smith proclaims Drake Maye is a liar in rant bashing Patriots QB image

TL;DR

  • ESPN's First Take criticized Drake Maye and the Patriots' easy schedule.
  • Drake Maye dismissed the criticism, stating he focuses on his organization's opinions.
  • Stephen A. Smith called Maye a liar for claiming ignorance of First Take and Cam Newton.
  • The dispute highlights First Take's style, while Maye focuses on the upcoming Bengals game.

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has been the target of an attack by ESPN's First Take.

Cam Newton called the Patriots "Fool's Gold" due to their schedule being labeled as easy. Maye responded to that criticism saying he doesn't even know what show Newton is on.

“I don’t even know what show he’s on,” Maye said via MASSLive. “I think they get paid to make remarks and make certain comments. So, I just worry about what people in our organization think, and worry about what we think and what my teammates think."

This prompted Stephen A. Smith, the patron saint of not overreacting or feeling self-important, to label Maye a liar for claiming he's unaware of First Take.

"[Drake Maye] is a liar," Smith exclaimed. "First Take is the number one morning show... Don’t tell me you a athlete and you don’t know that. Don’t tell me you a athlete and you don’t know that Cam Newton is on this show. You lying."

This peculiar one-sided dispute, characterized by Newton and Smith's sole investment while Maye remains focused on Sunday's Cincinnati Bengals, perfectly encapsulates *First Take*—a two-hour weekday broadcast from 10 AM to Noon EST dedicated to shouting into emptiness and uttering nonsensical statements.

This Sunday, the Patriots have an opportunity to decisively defeat the Bengals, focusing on football. Cincinnati might see Joe Burrow return, a move that seems like a desperate attempt to win out and secure a playoff spot.
