Drake Maye has reached the point in hype train proceedings in which it feels like he could be anyone.
The New England Patriots' second-year quarterback has all of a sudden become channeling traits of some of the best QBs in the NFL. He's looked like Josh Allen at times in the past few weeks. He's looked like Patrick Mahomes. He's accomplishing things not done for the Pats since Tom Brady.
To be sure, the hype train can sometimes travel too fast.
But it's also Maye who's doing a lot of the contributing to the speed.
He has been absolutely remarkable the last few weeks, highlighted nationally in a primetime win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 5, then in a sweet highlight reel against the New Orleans Saints in Week 6.
Maybe nothing sums up Maye's recent play better than the fact that he got into a streak of eight consecutive passes completed that were thrown 20 or more yards downfield.
We'll let ESPN's Mike Reiss explain from his Monday breakdown:
"Maye went 3-for-3 for 107 yards and three touchdown passes on throws of 20 or more yards downfield in the first half -- one to wide receiver DeMario Douglas and the other two to receiver Kayshon Boutte. All were touchdowns, which tied for the most such plays by any player in a game this season (Giants quarterback Russell Wilson in Week 2 at Cowboys). Maye had hit five straight passing plays thrown 20 or more yards downfield entering the game, giving him a streak of eight in a row."

As you're surely aware, those are supposed to be the hardest throws to complete.
A couple in the streak, including to Stefon Diggs down the right sideline in Buffalo and then on Boutte's touchdown against the Saints, were incredibly difficult connections to make, but Maye and his WRs made them anyway.
If he keeps doing this, the sky really is the limit on Maye's potential.
