Did the Patriots make any trades? Why New England trade deadline day was without news image

The New England Patriots entered NFL trade deadline day in surprisingly good position.

But when the 4 p.m. ET deadline came and went, nothing had changed for the Pats.

They did make a move on deadline day in free agency. They signed Brenden Rice, son of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, to the practice squad.

That's not exactly what everyone had in mind, though.

Did the Patriots make any trades?

No, the New England Patriots didn't make any trades on Tuesday before the NFL deadline.

They had traded away Keion White and Kyle Dugger already, two guys that didn't fit into Mike Vrabel's plan.

But they didn't bring anyone new in before the deadline.

Why didn't the Patriots make any trades?

The Patriots must've decided that the asking prices of the players they wanted wasn't worth paying.

The NFL trade deadline usually ends up being quieter than the hype around it. Teams are all operating on a similar value system for draft picks, and so it can be hard to actually get a deal done.

The Pats are also in an advantageous situation as it pertains to Drake Maye. Because he has taken this leap in just his second season, there's still time to take advantage of his cheap rookie contract. The window is open long beyond just this year.

The Patriots must've felt they'll keep some of their picks and use them well going forward, rather than putting too many eggs into just the basket of this season.
