Thanks to their aggressive approach to 2025 free agency, the Minnesota Vikings will enter training camp later this month with one of the most stacked 90-man rosters in the NFL.
There’s still a ton to shake out between now and roster cut-down day, as the Vikings are currently scheduled to open camp with 34 players — over one-third of the roster — on one-year or expiring contracts.
The majority of these players won’t make the initial 53-man roster, but the Vikings have multiple projected starters staring down contract years, with safety Josh Metellus, linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. and the likely-to-retire Harrison Smith topping the list.
Here’s the full breakdown:

Here are the definitions for each of the NFL's free-agent classifications:
- Unrestricted free agent (UFA): Any player with four or more accrued seasons and an expired contract; free to negotiate and sign with any team.
- Restricted free agent (RFA): A player with three accrued seasons and an expired contract. RFAs are free to negotiate and sign with any team, but their original team can offer them one of various qualifying offers ("tenders") that come with the right of first refusal and/or draft-pick compensation. If the tender is withdrawn by a team, the RFA becomes an unrestricted free agent.
- Exclusive rights free agent (ERFA): Any player with fewer than three accrued seasons and an expired contract. If his original team offers him a one-year contract at the league minimum (based on his credited seasons), the player cannot negotiate with other teams.
When does Vikings training camp begin?
The Minnesota Vikings will officially kick-off 2025 training camp on Saturday, July 26, with "Back Together Weekend.” This event includes practices, performances and player autograph sessions. The first fully-padded practice is scheduled for Monday, July 28. Training camp will be held at the TCO Performance Center in Eagan, and will run through Aug. 14, closing with a pair of joint practice sessions with the New England Patriots.
How much 2025 salary cap space does Minnesota have?
Despite leading the entire NFC in spending in 2025 free agency, the Vikings still have about $23.5 million in available cap space, per Over the Cap. This ranks right in the middle of the league, at the 15th most cap space in the NFL.
