Why Mike McDaniel made bizarre fourth-down decision in Dolphins vs. Commanders image

It has been a bad season for Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, and he certainly didn't do himself any favors in Week 11 against the Washington Commanders.

With a little under two minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Dolphins had a chance to take a three-point lead over the Commanders and possibly seal the victory with the team sitting at the one-yard line and set up for a chip-shot field goal.

However, McDaniel instead decided to go for it on fourth-and-1 and his running back, Ollie Gordon, was promptly stuffed, which led to a turnover on downs.

The Commanders then drove down the field and nearly won the game with a last-second field goal, but luckily for Miami, kicker Matt Gay missed the long field goal, sending the contest into overtime.

Why McDaniel made that decision is unknown. What we do know is it made zero sense.

McDaniel needs to finish the season strong to save his job and doing boneheaded things like that certainly won't help.

With the decision being illogical, the only things we can think of as far as possible explanations are concerned is McDaniel is trying to tank for a better draft pick or he's trying to get himself fired by doing dumb things.

We'll see what McDaniel has to say after the game, when is is certainly going to be asked about his decision..
