The Miami Dolphins came into the NFL trade deadline expected to be major sellers. While Jaelan Phillips was dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles, the rest of the roster stayed intact.

That wasn't to say there was no interest. Jaylen Waddle had a few teams interested, but the high price tag, a first-round pick plus, was too much for teams to match. Waddle wasn't the only offensive star to garner a lot of interest, either.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Dolphins star running back De'Von Achane drew a "significant" amount of interest at the NFL deadline. But the Dolphins kept the speedy running back, and the reasons why are clear.

Why Dolphins kept De'Von Achane despite significant trade interest

"... Sources say the Dolphins received significant interest in running back De'Von Achane," Rapoport reports. "It seems the 24-year-old generated as many phone calls as anyone, with Miami settling a second-round pick and more as the price."

The main reason Achane, despite significant interest from around the NFL, didn't get traded is the price tag. A second-round pick isn't cheap, and with more added on top of it, that's an expensive package for anyone at the trade deadline.

But, when it's in exchange for a running back, and one heading into a contract year in 2026, it's even more questionable if it's worth the draft capital.

A team like the Kansas City Chiefs could've benefited greatly from Achane, but since their second-round pick would be near the end of the round, the Dolphins likely would've asked for a good bit more in return.

Shipping off a second-round pick for a running back on the verge of a big payday wouldn't be the best use of resources for most teams.

Add on that his new team would only have a year and a half with Achane, and the Dolphins' high price tag is a huge reason why the trade wasn't completed.

Despite a lot of trade interest, the Dolphins held onto Achane. The high price tag for a running back, one heading into the last year and a half of control, made the Dolphins' star unlikely to be traded.
