The Miami Dolphins are making a change to their quarterback depth chart, but no, they are not benching Tua Tagovailoa.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Miami is promoting rookie signal-caller Quinn Ewers to the backup quarterback job behind Tagovailoa, which means Zach Wilson has been demoted to the No. 3 spot.

"The Dolphins are making a change to their QB depth chart for today’s game, as Quinn Ewers will serve as the backup to Tua Tagovailoa for their matchup against the Browns, per the insiders," Rapoport reported.

Ewers has been inactive for the first six games of Miami's season and has served as the emergency quarterback. Now, he's one injury away from playing

Once considered an elite quarterback prospect before his stock tanked, Ewers was taken with a seventh-round pick in April, but he has yet to take a single snap in the NFL.

In the preseason, he completed 53.5% of his passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns to zero interceptions.

With the Dolphins appearing to be on track for a rebuild after a 1-5 start, the team would be wise to get a look at Ewers at some point this season.

When the 2026 NFL draft rolls around, the Dolphins must look for a successor to Tagovailoa, but if Ewers can show enough when given a chance, that would help Miami avoid spending a pick on the position.
