The Miami Dolphins decided to part ways with head coach Mike McDaniel on Thursday, after four seasons with the franchise.

McDaniel engineered a potent Dolphins offense over his tenure and accumulated a 35-33 record to go along with two playoff appearances.

The former San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator is expected to get more head coaching interviews as this cycle progresses, but if he doesn't find a gig to his liking, he may have an NFC East coordinator job waiting for him.

Mike McDaniel linked to Commanders OC gig thanks to Dan Quinn ties

NFL insider Jordan Schultz linked McDaniel to the Washington Commanders after they parted ways with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.

"Mike McDaniel is likely to get head-coaching interviews this cycle, but if he doesn’t get a HC job, he’d be a very hot OC candidate," wrote Schultz in a post on X.

"One logical destination would be Washington: McDaniel is extremely close with Dan Quinn, has great admiration for him and what he’s done for his career — and previously worked in San Francisco with GM Adam Peters."

McDaniel spoke at length about his relationship with Washington head coach Dan Quinn earlier in the season, ahead of a Dolphins-Commanders matchup.

They spent time together coaching for the Atlanta Falcons, and have stayed close ever since.

McDaniel is likely to get consideration for a head coaching gig during the current hiring cycle, but if nothing piques his fancy, it seems like his fallback option will be with the Commanders.
