The Miami Dolphins are coming off a brutal Week 9 loss on Thursday Night Football to the Baltimore Ravens. Now at 2-7, and after firing general manager Chris Grier, the Dolphins could be major sellers at the upcoming trade deadline.
There are plenty of players who Miami could look to trade, although Jaylen Waddle and De'Von Achane aren't expected to be among those on the move. The same can't be said for the Dolphins' pass rushers, who are drawing a lot of interest around the league.
According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Dolphins are receiving a lot of interest in their players, especially Jaelan Phillips. The pass rusher is coveted by the Philadelphia Eagles, and Miami is setting a lofty asking price in trade talks.
Dolphins' Jaelan Phillips receiving Eagles interest, Miami is asking for at least a 3rd round pick
"Phillips, still only 26 and in a contract year," Breer writes, "might be the one with the most value, despite losing chunks of the past three years to serious injuries. The Eagles are a team to watch, with the question being how far Philly would go to get him (sounds like it'd cost at least a third-rounder)."
The asking price for Phillips, a 26-year-old pass rusher in the final year of his deal, is reportedly a third-round pick at the minimum. Moving on from Phillips wouldn't be the worst decision from the Miami front office, especially if they don't plan to re-sign him.
But the asking price of at least a third-round pick might be hard to get. Phillips is a rental, and a team sending a third rounder to Miami would be getting just half of their season with Phillips at the price of a top 100 pick.
While Phillips is a good player, his injury history and rental status make that price tag one that might be hard to reach.
The Dolphins' pass rusher has played in all nine games this season, racking up one fumble recovery, three sacks, 25 tackles, three tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, and 16 pressures.
More: What Dolphins parting with GM Chris Grier could mean for Miami's NFL deadline plans
He's been a solid pass rusher for Miami this season, but each of the last two years was cut short due to injury. Phillips played in just four games in 2024 and eight in 2023. His last full season in the NFL was in 2022, where he had seven sacks and 61 total tackles.
When healthy, Phillips is a good pass rusher. The only issue is that he's struggled to stay healthy in his career. But if he can stay healthy, then a team trading for him, like the Eagles, would be able to get strong value out of him for a third-rounder.
In the Eagles' case, that third-round pick will likely be in the 90s, as Philadelphia is one of the Super Bowl favorites and would likely be picking near the end of the draft.
Miami landing a third-rounder for Phillips would be a good deal, even if said third-rounder is near the end of day two of the draft. Philips is a player worth monitoring as the deadline approaches, as teams like the Eagles are interested in him, even if it costs a third-round pick.
