The Miami Dolphins have not fired head coach Mike McDaniel, but that has not stopped the team from exploring at least one option.

According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Dolphins have reached out to recently fired former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.

Anderson doesn't go into the specifics of that conversation, but it would appear that Miami has at least some interest in Harbaugh.

"I'm told the Dolphins have been in touch on John Harbaugh, per league sources," Anderson reported.

We would not automatically assume that this means McDaniel is finished, but it's certainly not great news for his chances of sticking around.

The Dolphins are likely just doing their due diligence to see if Harbaugh, who is highly-coveted, might have any interest in the Dolphins job. If he does, it's conceivable Miami could move on from McDaniel in favor of Harbaugh.

Whether or not the Dolphins would ditch McDaniel in favor of a lower-profile head coach remains to be seen, though.

The Dolphins are not the only team with interest in Harbaugh, so there's going to be plenty of competition.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Harbaugh has gotten calls from all seven teams with a head-coaching vacancy.

Making Miami's chances of landing Harbaugh even slimmer, The Athletic's Ian O'Connor says Harbaugh is the favorite for the Giants job.

As of right now, it looks like McDaniel might survive, but for Dolphins fans that don't want him to stay, the rumor from Anderson gives a glimmer of hope.
