There is no head-coach seat in the NFL hotter than Mike McDaniel's.
The Miami Dolphins head coach saw his team fall to 1-6 on the season in Week 7, and making the loss look worse, the Dolphins didn't look competitive against one of the worst teams in the NFL, the Cleveland Browns.
The loss was thought to be the final straw in McDaniel's tenure, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that no change is expected at this time.
"My understanding early on in the season for the Dolphins and for Mike McDaniel is owner Stephen Ross likes him and believes in him, has extended him in the past and wants to go forward with Mike McDaniel," Rapoport said.
"The only thing that would change it is if one, fans suddenly stop showing up to the stadium, which could happen for a really bad team in a lost season, or two, if the players stop playing for him," Rapoport added.
So, Dolphins fans, you now have your directive on how to get rid of McDaniel: stop showing up to games.
The Dolphins already checked the second box on Sunday. Losing to the lowly Browns in a blowout fashion said everything we need to know about where the players are with their head coach.
It was yet another indictment on what is a laundry list for McDaniel.
Even McDaniel looks defeated and Ross would probably be doing him a favor by firing the embattled head coach at this point.
What Ross cannot do is keep McDaniel under any circumstances. The situation is clearly broken (and that's putting it nicely) in South Beach and change is desperately needed.
