Ollie Gordon has been riding the preseason hype train.

But it's now time for the Miami Dolphins' rookie running back Gordon to prove he should keep the hype as the regular season gets underway this week.

There continues to be new positive publicity about Gordon every day, and the latest came in an article from The Athletic, in which a scout is quoted comparing Gordon to Corey Dillon.

"Tough, and he could help Miami salt away leads like former CIN/NE clock-killing Corey Dillon used to back in the day," the scout told The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue. "If he runs hard like he did in the preseason, watch out.”

Dillon's nickname, right at the top of his Pro Football Reference page, is Clock Killin' Corey Dillon.

The big bruiser knew how to put a game away.

It helped him win a Super Bowl with the Patriots, and he made four Pro Bowls in a career in which he ran for 1,000 yards in each of his first six seasons, and in seven overall.

If Gordon lives up to that in any way, it'd be a huge win for the Dolphins, who got him in the sixth round out of Oklahoma State after a bad final collegiate season ruined his prospects of getting drafted at what had felt previously liked it'd be much, much higher.

Gordon looks like he'll be RB2 in Week 1 for Miami against the Colts. De'Von Achance is expected to be healthy enough to play his starting role after an injury-filled preseason.

But Gordon will have to be ready. He'll likely see some work, and if Achane were to get hurt, there'd be even more for Gordon to do.

If the Dillon comparison is right, Gordon could be ready to hit the ground running right away.
