It appears De’Von Achane’s bid for 2,000 scrimmage yards will come up short.
The Dolphins (7-9) running back, who leads the NFL in yards per carry at 5.7 and has been the team’s MVP, is listed as doubtful with a shoulder injury for Sunday’s regular-season finale against the New England Patriots (13-3). Achane did not practice all week.
De’Von Achane was chasing 2,000 scrimmage yards
Entering Week 18, Achane needed just 162 scrimmage yards to reach 2,000 total yards from scrimmage, a feat no Miami player has accomplished since Ricky Williams in 2002.
Achane already ranks second in franchise history in single-season scrimmage yards. He has totaled 1,821 yards from scrimmage this season but would have needed an unlikely 368 yards to match Williams’ club record of 2,206 set in 2002.
"It shows I can be used all types of ways," Achane told reporters on Wednesday.
Miami offense has several key players out
Several other Dolphins offensive players are also listed as questionable for the finale, including wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (ribs), right tackle Austin Jackson (groin, back) and center Aaron Brewer (neck). Brewer was a full participant in Friday’s practice, while Jackson and Waddle were limited. Waddle said he is unsure if he will be able to play Sunday.
Earlier Friday, Miami placed tight end Darren Waller on injured reserve and added running back Donovan Edwards from Washington’s practice squad.
Jaylen Wright, Ollie Gordon II and Edwards are expected to be the Dolphins’ healthy running backs for Sunday’s game.
