The Los Angeles Rams are in the middle of a very strong 2025 season, thanks to Matthew Stafford getting back to vintage form with an MVP-caliber season through 10 weeks.

But, looking into the 2026 season and beyond, there are some questions about whether the Rams will have Stafford around. He's mulled retirement in prior offseasons, and he could also seek an expensive extension.

Regardless of what he decides, the Rams should explore backup and starting quarterback options. For Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals is a very interesting option Los Angeles should consider.

Why Kyler Murray would be an interesting fit with Rams

"The Rams would be an interesting option." Fowler writes. "With Matthew Stafford turning 38 in February, Murray could learn Sean McVay's system and get a chance to potentially start down the road."

Los Angeles adding a quarterback isn't out of the question this offseason, but Murray would be a very fascinating move to make.

Murray is on a massive $230 million contract and is under contract through the 2027 season, with a club option in 2028 that would be for a $46 million cap hit.

Trading for a player with such a huge contract, and one that's not played well, is a big risk for any team. It won't be cheap for the Rams in terms of compensation or monetary commitment to Murray.

But linking him up with Sean McVay could produce a great result, as there's been a trend of quarterbacks landing in new spots as reclamation projects and turning things around.

McVay helped spark one such quarterback turnaround, as Baker Mayfield found success with the Rams for a brief period of time, giving him a chance to prove himself later in his career.

Murray could be another such project quarterback, especially now that the Cardinals have seemingly decided to go with Jacoby Brissett over the 28-year-old first overall pick from 2019.

If there were an offensive coordinator who could get the most out of Murray, it would be McVay. The only major hurdle would be getting the Cardinals, a division rival, to agree to send Murray to the Rams.

The intra-division nature of such a move would make an already challenging trade to make even more difficult to make.

Amid the uncertainty with Murray's future in Arizona and Stafford's in Los Angeles, this potential trade would be a very fascinating move for both teams to make.
