One thing that has become quite apparent this season is the Los Angeles Rams are trying to incorporate Blake Corum into the offense more, which has hurt Kyren Williams' workload a bit.
While Corum wasn't involved in the offense much through Week 6, his usage has been more consistent since Week 7. Over the first six weeks, Corum averaged 5.3 touches per game, but since Week 7 that total has nearly doubled to 10.3 touches per.
Meanwhile, Williams has gone from averaging 18.8 touches per game over the first six contests to 15.6 per since Week 7. We also saw Corum vulture a touchdown on Sunday, although Williams later managed to score his own.
ESPN's Dan Graziano dove into the details of why the Rams have been rotating their backs more this season and it's because the Rams are looking to keep their starter fresh for the late-season and playoff push.
"I also asked the Rams about their running back usage, because I'm always looking out for my fantasy football readers. They've been rotating Williams and Corum drive-to-drive and will continue to do so. LaFleur told me he thinks they've been seeing the best version of Williams because he's fresher and not being asked to carry as much of the load, and the Rams have their sights set on January and February games and want everyone as fresh as possible," Graziano wrote.
Graziano also noted that he doesn't expect the rotation to end anytime soon.
"They're both eminently usable in fantasy," Graziano said of Corum and Williams, "but if you're expecting the split to start tilting toward one or the other, I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed."
While this split no doubt stinks for fantasy football managers who are depending on Williams as one of their top backs, it makes sense from the Rams' perspective since they plan on playing deep into January.
The good news is, Williams' 15.6-touch average since Week 7 is still on the higher end of running back usage around the NFL, so this isn't exactly a doomsday scenario.
