Rams get $18 million contract projection on star free agent safety image

The 2025 season has been a great one for the Los Angeles Rams, and while they aren't the NFC West winner, their defense and offense can contend with the best of the teams in the league.

After this season, there will be a lot of questions the Rams need to figure out about their future. Does Matthew Stafford return? How big is the Puka Nacua extension? Not to mention a star safety who's set to make a lot of money this offseason.

That player is Rams' safety Kamren Curl. According to a contract projection form Austin Gayle of The Ringer, Curl is projected to more than double his $9 million contract from the 2025 season.

Rams get $18 million projected contract for Kamren Curl

"He doesn't even rank inside the top 30 among safeties in average annual salary after signing a two-year, $9 million deal with the Rams in 2024. His pay should more than double next year, putting him in line with guys like Justin Reid, Josh Metellus, and Amani Hooker."

Curl landing a contract of at least double $9 million per year would mean Curl gets an $18 million per-year deal. That's far from a small contract, and it would be a tough contract for the Rams to sign.

It's not out of the question for the Rams to offer such a deal. But, Curl, a 26-year-old who will be 27 at the start of next season, has been one of the most consistent starters in the NFL since being drafted by the Washington Commanders in 2020.

He's started 85 games since 2020, recording five interceptions, 27 passes defended, eight total sacks, and 581 tackles.

This season, Curl has two interceptions, two sacks, four passes defended, 117 total tackles, and one forced fumble in his 16 starts for Los Angeles this season.

He's one of the better Rams defenders and should land a big deal this offseason as he hits free agency. But, with such a huge contract on the horizon, and some uncertainty for the Rams surrounding plenty of other players on the roster, Curl might not return next season.
