Puka Nacua gets $40 million contract update amid Rams 'big-time priority' image

The Los Angeles Rams have been one of the best teams in the NFL this season, and a huge reason has been the incredible play of Matthew Stafford and the offense.

Devante Adams has been revolutionary at the goal line, while Blake Corum and Kyren Williams have dominated on the ground. But Puka Nacua has been the best player, and after his third season, he is heading towards a major contract.

As NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport shared ahead of week 15, Nacua is in line for a big contract extension, and the Rams are more than willing to pay up to retain the superstar wide receiver in Los Angeles for years to come.

Rams considering $40 million extension for Puka Nacua

"This is a big-time priority for the Rams to lock him up to a big-money deal," Rapoport said. "Ja'Marr Chase, the NFL's highest-paid receiver, over $40 million (per year), we will see how close, maybe over, Puka Nacua gets.

Nacua is 24 years old, and after the 2025 season, he will be eligible for an extension. After an incredible first three seasons in the league, the Rams have every intention of locking him up long-term.

Rapoport's report suggests that the Rams are trying to extend Nacua, so much to the extent that they would be willing to spend $40 million per year on the superstar receiver. Ja'Marr Chase is the highest-paid WR, and Rapoport isn't shutting down the chance of Nacua beating his mark.

It would be a massive contract to hand out to a wide receiver, but based on how Nacua has played in recent seasons, it's not hard to understand why.

Through 14 Weeks this season, Nacua has 93 receptions for 1,186 yards and six touchdowns. Last season, he had 79 receptions for 990 yards and three touchdowns on a limited workload.

In his rookie year in 2023, Nacua was at his best. He recorded 105 catches for 1,786 yards and six touchdowns, setting some rookie records in the process.

Now, with a chance to sign a long-term extension this offseason, the Rams have every intention of signing a long-term deal for their superstar wide receiver.

The only question left is whether it's a deal that beats Chase's $40 million per year, and if it does, by how much does it beat by? Nacua is likely sticking around long-term in Los Angeles, as the Rams view an extension as a big priority.
