Matthew Stafford is a grizzled veteran by most NFL standards, and as a former No. 1 overall pick, he's been able to maximize his financial might.

Stafford signed his rookie contract before the rookie wage scale went into effect, making him one of the highest-paid rookies in NFL history. The veteran then earned starting quarterback money thanks to his play with the Lions and Rams throughout his career.

Before he retires, Stafford will go down as one of the highest-earning players in the history of the league in contracts alone. However, Stafford has also benefited from many endorsements and business ventures that have helped him increase his net worth.

Here's a breakdown of Stafford's financial successes over his career.

Matthew Stafford business ventures and philanthropy

Many of Matthew Stafford's business ventures are announced as partnerships with his wife, Kelly Stafford. In 2023, the Staffords invested in the NWSL team Angel City, which features a star-studded list of celebrity investors.

"We fell in love with attending an Angel City game last season and wanted our daughters to experience something so important and powerful first-hand," the Staffords said in a statement. "We have such great respect for the athletes on the field who are playing at the highest level and feel lucky to be able to support such an amazing team in a city that we love so much."

The same year, both Staffords became brand ambassadors for Trust & Will, a digital estate planning and settlement platform.

Besides business ventures, Stafford has been active in philanthropy throughout his career as well. In 2024, the Staffords helped open a $4 million addition to a Detroit recreation center run by the non-profit SAY Detroit. They also helped finance an NFL-caliber football field at the SAY Detroit Play Center at Lipke Park worth $1 million.

Where does Matthew Stafford live?

After Stafford was traded from the Lions to the Rams, Stafford sold his Detroit mansion and moved to Hidden Hills, California. In 2024, according to realtor.com, Stafford bought a residence for a neighborhood-record $28.2 million on a property that once featured a mansion owned by Jennifer Lopez.

That three-acre property was split in half and now features two homes, with the Staffords now residing in one of the two mansions. The Stafford's house features nine bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a movie theater and dance and recording studios.

Near the end of his time in Detroit, Stafford lived in a Bloomfield Hills lakeside home that they put on the market for $6.5 million in 2020. Initially, the Staffords were going to move off the water when they welcomed their fourth child, but Matthew was traded to Los Angeles a year later.

"We're about to have our fourth child, and I personally do not want to live on a lake or have a pool with four children under the age of a little over 3," Kelly Stafford said in 2020, via MLive.com. "That house has been incredible. We'll never have a house like it. So it is a super sad thing, but it just makes us feel better knowing that there's no real dangers of having tiny ones running around all the bodies of water."
