For the second consecutive week, the Los Angeles Rams have a major question mark in wide receiver Davante Adams.

Adams re-aggravated a hamstring injury he had been battling in the Week 15 win over the Detroit Lions. The veteran wideout did not practice all week and was designated as doubtful before being ruled out in Week 16.

In Week 17, it was more of the same for Adams, who did not practice before drawing the doubtful tag once again.

Here's the latest injury update on Adams going into the Monday night contest versus the Atlanta Falcons.

Is Davante Adams playing tonight?

While Adams has not been ruled out yet, the doubtful tag makes him very unlikely to play. We've seen players overcome the doubtful tag in years past, but it is extremely rare.

Adding to that, we saw Adams take the same practice path last week before being ruled out, which only adds to the pessimism surrounding his status.

The Rams would no doubt love to have Adams on the field, but they also have to think about the playoffs and having Adams ready to go when that time comes.

Forcing the issue with the veteran wideout in Week 17 could make his injury worse, which in turn could knock him out for the entire playoffs.

Playing Adams in the hopes he can improve their chances of winning and getting a higher seed simply isn't worth it for the Rams, who have already locked up their postseason spot.

Davante Adams return timeline

As far as when Adams could return is concerned, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler believes the Rams could shut him down until the playoffs. Fowler adds that Adams is considered week to week.

That would be the wise decision by the Rams.

They need to have their eyes on the bigger picture and it's way more important to have a healthy Adams for the playoffs rather than pushing him to play in the last regular season games, no matter what's on the line.
