Omarion Hampton injury update shows clear sign of progress for Chargers RB image

The Los Angeles Chargers have kept things mostly quiet on rookie running back Omarion Hampton since he's been on injured reserve. However, there was some semblance of an injury update to report on Friday.

According to The Athletic's Daniel Popper, Hampton was spotted working off to the side during practice on Friday, which marks the first time we've heard of the Los Angeles rusher doing any kind of work at practice.

"Omarion Hampton is working off to the side today at Chargers practice. Positive sign for the rookie RB as he works his way back from an ankle injury," Popper reported.

Of course, Hampton has been on injured reserve since Week 6 due to an ankle injury, but he is eligible to return this week after missing four games.

Now, this does not mean that Hampton is coming back this week, as side-field work typically means a player would be listed as a non-participant on the injury report.

Adding to that, Hampton first has to be designated to return from the list before he can be activated and that did not happen on Friday and it doesn't look like that'll happen this week.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh also said earlier in the week that Hampton may not have his practice window opened until after the Week 12 bye, so we may not see Hampton return until Week 13, at the earliest.

"Jim Harbaugh said he does not expect Omarion Hampton’s activation window to be opened until after the Week 12 bye," The Athletic's Daniel Popper reported.

Even still, it's clear that Hampton is at least moving in the right direction and hopefully he's able to surprise even Harbaugh by getting back sooner than expected.
