Justin Herbert's high school baseball stats have Chargers QB going viral for new reason image

The touchdown throw Justin Herbert made to Keenan Allen late in the Los Angeles Chargers' Week 3 win made it clear: This dude had been a baseball player.

He threw so naturally on his run going to his left from a slightly lower-than-usual arm slot. That's a multi-sport toss, for sure.

And that led to some social media discourse this week about Herbert the former baseball player.

Herbert attended Sheldon (Ore.) High School, and he was a dominant pitcher as a senior.

His senior season stats on the mound:

  • 8-0
  • 0.66 ERA
  • 71 strikeouts
  • 53.1 innings

Herbert has said he thought he might end up playing professional baseball and not football.

It seems he's made the right call, but it's also not hard to imagine him on an MLB mound.

This is a 6-foot-6 QB who can throw a football as far and as hard as anyone on the planet. Sounds like a dominant closer.

Maybe the Dodgers or the Angels or the Padres should call him up. Well, not the Angels, since they're about to be sitting at home with their season over.

Herbert is certainly happy playing in the NFL. But it's always fun to revisit athletic pasts of some of the best athletes on the planet.
