This past Saturday, the Las Vegas Raiders fell short against the San Francisco 49ers in their preseason matchup.
Although they didn't walk away with a win, there were plenty of bright spots for fans to look forward to, with one of them being third-year edge rusher Tyree Wilson.
According to Justin Melo of Raiders Wire, Wilson looked impressive and showed great versatility throughout the game. He also had an impressive rep against San Francisco 49ers tight end in George Kittle, who is an elite blocker.
"The former Texas Tech standout put a number of positive plays on tape. Here in particular, Wilson defeats 49ers TE George Kittle to get backfield penetration and help his teammates make the tackle behind the line of scrimmage," Melo wrote.

"Pro Football Focus assigned Wilson an overall defensive grade of 74.4 for his performance against the 49ers. It was a very positive showcase for a defender who is still developing and rounding out his skill set," Melo added.
Coming out of Texas Tech, Wilson was known as one of the most athletic and powerful edge rushers in his class, which made him a top-10 draft pick.
In Wilson's three seasons at Texas Tech, he recorded 15.5 sacks and 29 tackles for loss. On top of this, he benched an impressive 23 reps at the combine, eventually awarding him a 6.77 prospect grade, which was fifth best in his class.
For a highly-drafted player, Wilson’s career has gotten off to an underwhelming start. However, with him playing behind All-Pro Maxx Crosby and occasionally kicking inside to defensive tackle on passing downs, Wilson is now in a strong position to succeed.
If Wilson continues to build on his performance against the 49ers and carries that momentum through the rest of the preseason and into the regular season, there’s little doubt he can develop into a pivotal long-term piece of the Raiders’ defense.
