The Week 11 loss to the Dallas Cowboys only further illustrated how big of a mess the Las Vegas Raiders are.
Not only was it another example of how bad Las Vegas is talent-wise, but we also saw more baffling decisions from head coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
The Raiders had a golden opportunity to get rookie guard Caleb Rogers some reps in live-game action thanks to the injury to Jackson Powers-Johnson, but Rogers was instead inactive.
Then, we saw yet another game in which running back Ashton Jeanty was underutilized, something that has been a common occurrence this season.
Before that game even took place, The 33rd Team's Ari Meirov revealed some interesting nuggets on his podcast.
Here are the key points, but you can check out all of Meirov's comments in the video below.
- The front office and coaching staff are on different trajectories. The front office is trying to build for the future, while the coaching staff has been more focused on competing now, hence the lack of playing time for young players.
- There is a world where offensive coordinator Chip Kelly and head coach Pete Carroll are not back next year.
- General manager John Spytek and the front office are safe.
- Raiders' coaching staff didn't want to trade Jakobi Meyers.
The Raiders-Carroll pairing was always a bad idea.
After all, Las Vegas desperately needed to break this thing down and rebuild, but it was clear right off the bat that a 74-year-old head coach had no interest in doing that and instead wanted to try and compete now.
“We’re trying our best to win the games,” Carroll said after the loss to the Cowboys.
The result has been the Raiders playing veterans rather than giving younger players an opportunity to prove themselves in games, which is a terrible approach for a team that should be looking to the future.
Something has got to give.
Either Carroll fully buys into a rebuild and embraces utilizing younger players, or he need to go, plain and simple.
As for Kelly, he can go, too.
