The Las Vegas Raiders might have yet another one-and-done head coach.
Pete Carroll's first season in Las Vegas has been a total disaster.
After the team hoped the veteran head coach could turn things around in 2025, the opposite has happened and the Raiders are instead arguably the worst team in the NFL.
That has led many to wonder if Carroll and general manager John Spytek could get the boot after the 2025 campaign.
According to NFL insider Tony Pauline, three separate sources are telling him that the Raiders will part ways with Carroll after just one season. However, Spytek is expected to stick around.
"Three separate sources have told me that Carroll won’t survive this disastrous season and will be let go soon after the final game against the Chiefs. These same sources tell me they expect Spytek to survive and remain general manager of the franchise," Pauline reported for Essentially Sports.
Pauline goes on to add that "while the players personally like Carroll, they believe there is a huge disconnect between the head coach and the front office on personnel and other matters that negatively affect game day and have led to just two wins after 16 games."
Spytek being safe isn't a shock at all. That's because he has a strong connection with minority owner Tom Brady from their days together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Brady is "the one calling the shots," Pauline says.
This isn't the first time we've heard serious doubt about Carroll's future in Las Vegas.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport stated over the weekend that he doesn't expect Carroll to be back next season.
"Looks like the Raiders will be making the No. 1 overall pick, so they're gonna be on the clock next Sunday," Rapoport said. "This can change an organization. It took a lot to get here. We'll see if Pete Carroll's there for it, I doubt it, but we'll see."
While firing yet another full-time head coach after just one season isn't a great look for the Raiders, it would also be an understandable move.
Not only have the Raiders been bad, but they've actually been worse than last season, even with a supposed upgrade at quarterback in Geno Smith.
Adding to that, Carroll has mishandled his young players, including Jackson Powers-Johnson, and he hasn't given rookies enough playing time.
That points to a coach who is resistant to a rebuild, something the Raiders badly need to do. Knowing that, hiring a 74-year-old head coach was always a bad decision.
We'll see if Carroll can survive this disaster, but right now all signs are pointing to him getting the boot in 2026.
