The Las Vegas Raiders have had a nightmare 2025 campaign, as Pete Carroll's squad sits at 2-9 heading into Week 13 and is squarely the worst team in the AFC West.
As a result of their awful season, Las Vegas has already started firing coaches. The franchise moved on from Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator after a 24-10 defeat to the Cleveland Browns last week.
Though Kelly severely underperformed as the Raiders' offensive coordinator, it sounds like most of the offensive struggles should fall on none other than Pete Carroll.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, scouts and coordinators around the league believe that Las Vegas wasn't running Kelly's preferred offense during his tenure as offensive coordinator. They believe the Raiders were utilizing an offense preferred by Carroll.
"Based on the views of those who studied the offense and based on those who game-planned against it this season, they don't believe Kelly was running his own offense at all," Rapoport wrote. "Instead, the blend of Seattle and Las Vegas schemes tilted far more toward the under-center zone scheme Carroll favors."
"One previous opponent even had their scout team prepare cards based on Seattle plays of the past under Carroll, sources say."
Rapoport added that Kelly wasn't a fan of Carroll's offense, which could've contributed to his firing.
"Kelly, a 62-year-old who has run his own offense countless times, also was miffed at how heavy-handed Carroll was with what he wanted to run, and how he wanted it run. Sources say Kelly expressed frustration about the setup," Rapoport added.
These rumors and reports from Rapoport show why Las Vegas must consider moving on from Carroll. It's clear that the Super Bowl XLVIII champion has reached his peak as an NFL head coach, and the league has moved past his prehistoric offensive philosophies.
The Raiders will likely give Carroll another season with a fresh approach. However, Year 1 of the Carroll has been a major failure in Las Vegas.
