Raiders' Pete Carroll sets NFL coaching age record in Week 1 image

There's no one in the NFL quite like Pete Carroll, who is beginning his first season as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

This is the guy who dons wide receiver gloves at practice so he can get out into some patterns to catch passes. He's exuberant, pretty much always.

He's also the oldest head coach in NFL history.

When Carroll takes the sideline Sunday against the New England Patriots, he'll set that record, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

As Schefter wrote on X, "Even if he hardly acts like it."

Pete Carroll is 73 years old as of Sunday, Sept. 7, which is when his Raiders take on the Patriots in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.

Specifically, Carroll is 73 years and 357 days. He'll turn 74 on Sept. 15.

For reference, Bill Belichick won't turn 74 until April 16.

Pete Carroll coaching record

Pete Carroll is most known in the NFL for his 14 years in charge of the Seattle Seahawks, for whom he went 137-89-1 and won a Super Bowl.

He also had one season with the Jets (6-10) and three with the Patriots (27-21).

Carroll's career NFL record before coaching a game for the Raiders: 170-120-1.

He also spent nine years coaching at USC. With the Trojans, he was 97-19. He won two national titles although the 2004 championship was later vacated by the NCAA.
