Raiders have clear-cut top choice among 5 known candidates for head coach job image

The Las Vegas Raiders have already completed one interview for their head coach vacancy and have four more scheduled through Friday.

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Raiders have already interviewed Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach and passing-game coordinator Davis Webb.

In addition, the Raiders will interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski and Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph on Thursday, and then Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak on Friday.

"The Raiders are interviewing Chiefs OC Matt Nagy, ex-Browns coach Kevin Stefanski and Broncos DC Vance Joseph for their head coaching job today, per sources," Breer reported on Thursday. "Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak interviews tomorrow. Vegas met with Broncos QB coach/PGC Davis Webb yesterday."

Stefanski is the clear-cut top choice

Stefanski remains our top choice for the Raiders.

A two-time Coach of the Year, Stefanski has a wealth of experience and had some success with a down-and-out franchise in Cleveland, making two postseason appearances and earning one playoff win during his tenure.

Things ended poorly for Stefanski there, but the Browns' quarterback situation was a total disaster over the past two years thanks to Deshaun Watson in 2024 and the pair of rookie signal-callers in 2025, although Shedeur Sanders did at least show some promise, which is a credit to Stefanski.

With the Raiders expected to take a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, it makes sense to have an offensive-minded head coach at the helm, and that's why we rank Stefanski over Joseph.

For the record, we want nothing to do with Nagy, who already failed miserably as a head coach in Chicago and has done nothing to help elevate the offense in Kansas City in recent years (he doesn't call the plays, either).

Among the retreads listed here, we'd rank Stefanski as No. 1, and then it's a wide gap between him and Joseph, and then an even wider gap between Joseph and Nagy.

As far as the non-retread options go, Kubiak sits over Webb in our mind after his incredibly impressive first season calling plays for Seattle. Kubiak also has the head-coach pedigree after his father, Gary Kubiak, coached in the league.

Here's our full rankings for all five:

  1. Stefanski
  2. Kubiak
  3. Joseph
  4. Webb
  5. Nagy

Webb is intriguing and maybe the Raiders consider him for offensive coordinator, but his lack of experience even calling plays worries us when it comes to being a head coach.

It remains to be seen if the Raiders will consider anyone else, but we would assume there will be at least a few more interviews in the days ahead.
