The Las Vegas Raiders have had a disastrous 2025 campaign, as Pete Carroll's squad is 2-14 heading into their Week 18 game versus the Kansas City Chiefs.

One of the most disappointing parts of the Raiders' season has been the performance of quarterback Geno Smith. The veteran was supposed to provide Las Vegas with stable play at the sport's most vital position, but Smith has done the exact opposite, tossing a league-high 17 interceptions with just 19 touchdowns.

The Raiders could save $8 million by moving on from Smith this offseason, and it's hard to see the franchise not resetting at quarterback in the spring. That said, CBS Sports' Ryan Wilson predicts Las Vegas will use their first-round draft pick in April, currently slated at No. 1 overall, to select Indiana signal-caller Fernando Mendoza.

Here is Wilson's full scouting report on Mendoza:

"Mendoza is a poised, accurate passer who has plus arm talent, consistently delivering catchable balls on time and in rhythm and excelling on layered second-level routes. He shows NFL-level field vision and coverage recognition, consistently ripping throws with anticipation. While not a true creator, Mendoza navigates collapsing pockets effectively and can make accurate off-platform throws, showing a calm, efficient style reminiscent of Jared Goff."

Mendoza has had a breakout season at Indiana this season, and was nearly perfect in the Hoosiers' playoff victory over Alabama on Thursday, posting three touchdowns and 192 passing yards on 14 of 16 passing.

At 6-foot-5, Mendoza possesses excellent size and is also an underrated athlete, along with his pinpoint accuracy. The 22-year-old has all the tools to be a franchise quarterback at the next level.

Las Vegas needs to inject some excitement into the franchise, and selecting Mendoza would do just that. Additionally, the Heisman trophy winner could completely revitalize the Raiders and finally provide them with a bright future at quarterback.
