The Las Vegas Raiders are not having the 2025 season that they envisioned.

The team decided to fire head coach Antonio Pierce after just one season at the helm. In response, legendary coach Pete Carroll was brought in to bring stability to the flailing organization.

Instead, the Raiders have been just as bad, if not worse, than they were in 2024. Entering Week 14, the team is sitting at 2-10 and buried in the basement of the AFC West.

As a result, Logan Ulrich of NFL Trade Rumors believes Carroll could be one-and-done in Vegas. Regarding that possibility, Ulrich offered the following:

It’s hard to overstate how miserable this year has been for the Raiders. Las Vegas is just 2-10 on the season, earning a Week 1 fakeout win over the Patriots and the second victory over the equally miserable Titans. Outside of some individual brilliance from a couple of players like TE Brock Bowers and DE Maxx Crosby, there’s very little the Raiders do well. They’re 30th in total offense and 31st in scoring, while ranking No. 26 in scoring defense.

As Ulrich mentioned, the Raiders don't really do anything well in 2025. Sure, Brock Bowers and Maxx Crosby are stars, but Geno Smith has been bad at quarterback and the offensive line is as bad as it's ever been.

Could Pete Carroll be fired after the 2025 season?

The precedent is there for a veteran coach to be fired after one season. The Carolina Panthers brought in Frank Reich, who had some success with the Indianapolis Colts, in 2023, and fired him after the team went 1-10 through the first 11 games.

The Raiders also fired Pierce after just one season not even a full calendar year ago. Sure, it wouldn't look good to make a move like that again, but having continuity means nothing if the wrong person is in place.

Carroll will also turn 75 at the beginning of the 2026 season, and the coach has previously signaled that he is not interested in a full rebuild

What direction could the Raiders go after Carroll?

Going with the interim on staff didn't work with Pierce, and going with the legendary old school coach seemingly isn't going to work with Carroll.

The team likely wouldn't want to go for another retread coach right after Carroll. With Tom Brady seemingly becoming more and more involved, the team would likely have several options to take over going forward.
