It doesn’t appear as though Pete Carroll’s stint on the sideline in Las Vegas will last longer than a single season.

The Raiders brought Carroll in to right the ship last offseason, but that hasn’t happened. The Raiders have gone just 2-14 in Carroll’s first season – which is the worst record in the NFL – and they don’t look to be any closer to contention than they were a year ago.

Raiders expected to part ways with Pete Carroll after season

As a result, it sounds like the organization is ready to move in a different direction. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, it sure sounds like Carroll’s days in the desert are numbered.

From Rapoport:

“Signs are pointing toward another reset in Las Vegas, where Pete Carroll’s status is very much in doubt. It would be, at this point, a major surprise if Carroll returns for a second season. … And that likely is the start of a full rebuild, the right way. Las Vegas has a long way to go roster-wise and appears to recognize what is in front of them.”

There are likely to be some mixed feelings about this. Yes, the 2025 season has been a dumpster fire for the Raiders and Carroll has been a part of that. But, it’s also difficult to expect a head coach to come in and change a losing culture in just a single season.

Patience is typically required for such things, but Las Vegas doesn’t really seem to value patience. Carroll is the team’s fifth head coach since 2020. If they move on from him, they’ll be looking for a sixth.

Nevertheless, the Raiders are set to close out their current campaign with a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The outcome of that one won’t really matter for either team, as both have already been eliminated from playoff contention. A final decision regarding Carroll’s future in Las Vegas could come shortly thereafter.
