The Las Vegas Raiders opened up their preseason slate on Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks and quarterback Geno Smith made his Raiders debut.
It wasn't totally clear if the Raiders would play their starters, but Smith and the ones did see the field. Smith had the shortest stint of the starters, though, with the veteran signal-caller seeing just one drive.
And it didn't go great — Smith and the Raiders did manage to pick up a first down on the drive on a 15-yard completion to wide receiver Tre Tucker on the first play of the game, but that was it.
After a three-yard run by rookie running back Ashton Jeanty, wideouts Jakobi Meyers and Dont'e Thornton both dropped passes, leading to a punt.
Smith's pass to Thornton was a back-shoulder beauty, but Thornton simply couldn't come up with it.

Geno Smith's preseason Week 1 stats
Completions | 1 |
Attempts | 3 |
Completion rate | 33% |
Passing Yards | 15 |
Touchdowns | 0 |
Interceptions | 0 |
Sacks | 0 |
While the stats aren't pretty, the Raiders' offensive struggles with Smith in the lineup weren't on him.
His lone drive would've looked a lot different if Meyers and Thornton were able to hold on to the football. On the bright side, Smith didn't take any sacks.
We'll see if the Raiders deploy their starters again next week, when Las Vegas hosts the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, Aug. 16.
