The Kansas City Chiefs are in a little trouble right now.
At 5-5, the division is gone, with the 9-2 Denver Broncos running away with it after a 22-19 win over the Chiefs in Week 11.
But also, the Chiefs, if the playoffs were to begin today, would be watching from the couch, meaning no Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs for the first time in his glittering NFL career. It would also snap his AFC Championship streak, as he has made it to that game every year of his career.
So, there's that.
But perhaps even more startling is the last time the Chiefs missed the playoffs.
We know that with Andy Reid and Mahomes, the Chiefs have been in the tournament every year since 2018, but the last time Kansas City missed out on the playoffs was way back in 2014.
They finished 9-7 and second in the division with Alex Smith at quarterback.
So, since 2015, the Chiefs have been in the playoffs, and right now, Mahomes is in danger of snapping a decade-long streak of excellence...unless he can turn things around.

Chiefs need form turnaround in worst way
The loss to the Broncos in Week 11 marked the second time this season Kansas City has lost back-to-back games.
The last time the Chiefs lost back-to-back games was in 2023, Week 13 and 14, so this is something that doesn't normally happen.
Is the dynasty over? Not yet. But those who think so aren't facing too much pushback right now.
Can the Chiefs still make the playoffs? Absolutely, but it would require going on a run and winning potentially five or six games in their last seven, which is doable, but tough.
Betting against the Chiefs hasn't benefited many over the year, but maybe this is the time when people can collect on those bets.
The 2014 season was the last time Kansas City missed the playoffs. Is that streak about to be snapped?
