Now that he's been fired by the Miami Dolphins, what's next for Mike McDaniel? According to receiver Tyreek Hill, McDaniel and the Kansas City Chiefs should avoid each other.
Mark Gunnels, a Fox Sports Radio host who also contributes to Arrowhead Pride, named his top three options to be Kansas City's next offensive coordinator. McDaniel was No. 1 on Gunnels' list, which was rounded out by Nate Scheelhaase and Kliff Kingsbury.
Hill, who has experience with both McDaniel and the Kansas City offense, poured cold water on that idea.
"Mike don’t fit yall scheme buddy sorry to tell ya," Hill replied on X, formerly Twitter.
Hill, of course, played under McDaniel in Miami for the last four seasons. Before going to the Dolphins, Hill played with the Chiefs from 2016 to 2021. While a lot has changed in Kansas City since Hill's departure, there are some notable holdovers, including head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. So, he'd be a strong person to listen to on such matters.
Gunnels, for his part, was unfazed by the lack of a scheme fit. In fact, he saw it as a good thing.
"The scheme is the problem," he replied to Hill. "There needs to be an outside voice coming in to shake things up."
An outside shakeup is probably not a bad idea. Even as the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in the 2023 season and returned in 2024, the offense was frequently not clicking. That continued into 2025, when the Chiefs nosedived to a 6-11 finish, missing the playoffs. Whether Reid and the Chiefs' brass would be receptive to a shakeup that drastic, however, is another matter.
