When it comes to his football future beyond the 2025 NFL season, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce wants to wait until after the season to make any decisions. But, he does plan to be considerate of the organization in terms of his timeframe.

"I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not -- or whether they want me back or not," Kelce said, via ESPN. "I'd like to make that decision before they've got to get draft picks and free agency opens to fill the roster appropriately.

"All that will be at the end of the season. I won't be thinking about it until then."

It’s understandable that Kelce would want to maintain full focus on the current campaign given the fact that the Chiefs are currently 5-5 and in danger of missing out on postseason play for the first time since 2014. If they don’t end the season strong, Kelce is going to have to start thinking about his future earlier than he would like to.

Statistically, it sure looks like Kelce should still have some gas left in the tank beyond this season, as he continues to be one of the most productive tight ends in the league. He’s caught 50 balls for 631 yards and four touchdowns this season. He credits the talent around him for that success, though.

"I think what you're seeing is I'm a product of my environment right now," Kelce said. "Everything is predicated off of how the offensive line does and how the guys around us do and, obviously, the chemistry me and [Patrick Mahomes] have been able to accumulate over the years."

Kelce is on the final year of his current contract, which has led to some speculation that he could hang up his cleats after this season. However, his productive play begs to differ.

Ultimately, the way the Chiefs close out this season could very well factor into Kelce’s decision. If they miss the playoffs, there’s a chance that he wouldn’t want to go out like that. On the other hand, if they go on a run and win another Super Bowl, perhaps he would ride off into the sunset.

We won't know what the future holds for Kelce until after the season. In the meantime, be sure to appreciate the opportunity to watch him out on the field while you can.
