There was a thought that the Kansas City Chiefs would do all sorts of things to get Travis Kelce the football on Sunday in what could've been his final game before retirement.
Instead, Kelce hardly touched the ball, and the already-eliminated Chiefs suffered a brutal loss to end their nightmare season.
Daniel Carlson drained a late 60-yard field goal to give the Las Vegas Raiders a 14-12 lead in a game that had no touchdowns.
Kelce got his third and final catch on the last play, grabbing a short one from Shane Buechele and then pitching it to a teammate on a lateral play that didn't lead to anything as time expired.
The legendary tight end finished with three catches for 12 yards.
It's not a given that he'll retire.
The 36-year old TE hasn't acknowledged any decision publicly.
There's a chance this leaves a sour taste in his mouth and he wants to take another run at it. That's at least a little complicated by the recent torn ACL for Patrick Mahomes that will keep him out for the early portion of next season.
But the Chiefs finished the season 6-11. Kelce surely won't love going out on that note.
It was tough enough to swallow the pill of getting blown out in the last Super Bowl by the Eagles.
Now, the worst record of Kelce and Mahomes' career is even trickier to deal with.
Kelce will surely let everyone know what he's doing eventually.
But if this was the end, it was a sad whimper.
