Josh Simmons injury update is tough blow for Chiefs' offensive line amid playoff push image

The Kansas City Chiefs have provided an injury update on left tackle Josh Simmons and it's bad news.

Simmons sustained a wrist injury in the Week 13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving that was later diagnosed as a dislocation and fracture.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed on Wednesday that Simmons needed surgery to repair his wrist injury and is now headed to injured reserve.

"Chiefs coach Andy Reid says LT Josh Simmons had surgery on his wrist. He's been placed on IR," The Athletic's Jesse Newell reported.

With Simmons going on injured reserve this week, the earliest he can return is in Week 18, when the Chiefs take on the Las Vegas Raiders.

But it remains to be seen if he'll even be ready to return at that point. The severity of the injury strongly suggests he won't be.

With Simmons now on the shelf, the Chiefs will deploy backup Jaylon Moore in his stead. Moore was signed to a two-year, $30 million deal in the offseason that is now looking better and better.

In 200 pass-blocking snaps this season, Moore has surrendered three sacks and 18 pressures while posting Pro Football Focus grades of 56.7 in pass-blocking and 67.8 in run-blocking.

Not great, but it's better than most backup tackles will offer.
