How long is Rashee Rice out? Explaining Chiefs WR's suspension timeline image

Rashee Rice has the talent to be one of the NFL's top wide receivers.

But right now, the Kansas City Chiefs' talented WR is on the sideline due to a suspension.

From a football standpoint, it wasn't great timing. The Chiefs want to get off to a fast start in 2025 after their tough Super Bowl loss in February, but they've got to do it without their possession receiver, who missed most of 2024 with an injury, too.

How long is Rashee Rice out?

Rashee Rice is out for six games.

That's the length of the suspension the NFL gave Rice just before the start of the 2025 NFL season.

The Chiefs will be at home in Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders in Rice's first possible game to return.

Why is Rashee Rice suspended?

Rice is suspended based on actions in a March 2024 car crash.

He was arrested after fleeing the scene of a crash in the Dallas area that injured several people. Rice was allegedly racing another driver at the time of the crash.

In July 2025, Rice pleased guilty to felony counts of collision involving serious bodily injury, and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. The plea deal carries five years of probation and a sentence of 30 days in jail that can be served any time in those five years.

Rashee Rice stats

Rice was a star as a rookie, catching 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.

He only made it to Week 4 in 2024 before a season-ending injury on a fluky collision. He had 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in less than four full games in 2024.

He was expected to be the Chiefs' WR1 in 2025, but without him in the early going, Xavier Worthy will take on a huge role from the outset.
