The Kansas City Chiefs lost a ton in Week 15. They lost to the Los Angeles Chargers, they lost their All-World quarterback Patrick Mahomes for the season to a torn ACL, and they lost any shot at making the postseason, as they were eliminated from playoff contention after falling to 6-8.
Not only is it shocking for all of the NFL world that the Chiefs won't be playing playoff football for the first time since the 2014 season, but it was s shock to their All-Pro defensive tackle as well. Speaking to the media after the loss to the Chargers, Chris Jones didn't realize the Chiefs were out of postseason contention.
"We still have a fighting chance," Jones said. He was then informed that the Chiefs, in fact, did not have a fighting chance.
"Oh, we're out of the playoffs?" Jones asked, to which he was told yes, the Chiefs were not playing meaningful football the rest of the way.
The Chiefs won't be playing for postseason position, and they will be starting Gardner Minshew the rest of the way. And while their season is doe for all intents and purposes, there are larger questions that loom about Andy Reid and many members of the coaching staff going forward that loom large.
