This isn't how Travis Kelce would've drawn up the ending.
But this might be the end for the Kansas City Chiefs' legendary tight end all the same. Retirement is just around the corner, and it may be closing fast.
AllSportsPeople' national NFL writer, Vinnie Iyer, wrote after the Chiefs' Week 16 loss that the choice should be easy for Kelce now.
Patrick Mahomes is out and likely won't be back for Week 1 of next season. There's a wedding in June for Kelce and Taylor Swift. This season has been bumpy, and it may just be time.
This is part of what Iyer wrote:
When Kelce plays in front of Chiefs Kingdom in the home season finale against the Broncos, he will be the man of the three hours. Figure his life partners, Taylor Swift and Jason Kelce, will be in front of the skybox, along with close family and friends to celebrate the holiday right along with Travis' amazing NFL career as the GOAT tight end.
If Kelce couldn't end his career walking off the field as a Super Bowl champion, that should feel like a close second, despite the circumstances. He's done everything he can to help Mahomes and the Chiefs win so many meaningful games. Now it's his turn to mean the most for the team.

Kelce is 36 years old now. He's going to have a third consecutive season with fewer than 1,000 yards.
On the flip side, it is his 12th season in a row with at least 800 yards, which is a feat only previously accomplished by Jerry Rice. Kelce isn't totally washed up.
But the story is coming to an end sooner rather than later, and Iyer writes that this should be Kelce's final NFL chapter.
