TL;DR

  • Kansas City Chiefs lost to Dallas Cowboys 31-28, now 6-6 and facing improbable playoff chances.
  • Rookie left tackle Josh Simmons suffered a dislocated and fractured wrist, out indefinitely.
  • Jaylon Moore will protect Patrick Mahomes' blindside for the rest of the season.
  • The Chiefs' playoff aspirations are further diminished by the loss and Simmons' injury.

When it rains, it pours, and the Kansas City Chiefs are in a world of hurt right now.

Still processing the 31-28 defeat against the Dallas Cowboys, which now leaves Andy Reid's squad at 6-6 and makes a playoff appearance, barring a perfect finish for The Chiefs, appear improbable, the football deities have chosen to add to the misery.

Josh Simmons, the rookie left tackle who had been performing admirably against the Dallas defense, had to leave the game because of an injury. The cause wasn't immediately clear, but it has since been revealed.

Look away, Chiefs fans.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Simmons suffered a dislocated and fractured wrist. Ouch.

But that's not the worst part.

Rapoport states that Simmons is out indefinitely with the injury.

The football gods were not kind to the Chiefs in their game against Dallas.

Indeed, the defeat was significant considering its impact on the Chiefs' season prospects and the precarious situation it places Patrick Mahomes and his team in.

But now, Mahomes will have to face the rest of the season without his starting left tackle.

That is far from ideal.

Following the game, Andy Reid mentioned a "next man up" mentality, though it's evident that this approach doesn't apply equally to all positions.

Jaylon Moore is now tasked with Protecting Mahomes' blindside for the remainder of the season, following a severe setback for The Chiefs after their crushing defeat against the Cowboys.

As I said, folks, when it rains, it pours.
