The Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks nearly pulled off a trade right before the deadline on Tuesday.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Seattle and Kansas City were close on a trade that centered around Seahawks linebacker Boye Mafe, who was the subject of trade rumors before deadline day.
However, despite the fact that it was believed something would get done, the Seahawks decided to hold on to their veteran linebacker.
"A near deal: At Tuesday’s NFL deadline, the Chiefs made a late strong push to acquire Seahawks linebacker Boye Mafe, per sources," Schefter reported.
"Some thought the deal would get done; one source even thought it was completed. But right before the deadline, Seattle opted to hold on to Mafe," he added.
There were no shortage of rumblings the Chiefs were on the lookout for a trade to improve their pass-rush, hence their interest in Mafe.
But it never really made sense for the Seahawks to trade him.
Granted, Mafe is in the final year of his contract and has been disappointing in 2025, but the Seahawks are also pushing to win the AFC West and make the playoffs, so selling off depth wouldn't have been a prudent move.
Mafe wasn't the only one Seahawk mentioned in trade rumors, as cornerback Riq Woolen was once believed to be available. Of course, he wasn't traded, either.
The Seahawks did add someone, though, with the team acquiring Rashid Shaheed in a trade with the New Orleans Saints on deadline day that will add more length inside the wide receivers room.
With Seattle's status as one of the best teams in the NFL this season, selling never should have been on the table. Clearly, general manager John Schneider was close to trading away at least one player, but ultimately thought the better of it.
