One of the biggest issues for the 2-3 Kansas City Chiefs has been the struggles of the run game.
Not only are Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt averaging just 4.2 and 3.8 yards per carry, respectively, but Patrick Mahomes is actually Kansas City's leading rusher. That is just not going to cut it for the reigning AFC champions.
Josh Weil of Pro Football & Sports Network thinks he has a fix. He predicts the Chiefs will pull off a trade with the Houston Texans for former All-Pro running back Nick Chubb.
The prediction from Weil sees the Chiefs give up a 2026 sixth-round pick for the four-time Pro Bowler.
"I think having a healthy Nick Chubb in-house, where they don’t have to overuse him, would be a welcome addition, given his poise and experience. It worked well when he played with Kareem Hunt in Cleveland in the past, too, and to lead with three solid backs is something they have shown they are willing to do," Weil wrote.
Chubb has taken lead back duties with Joe Mixon still absent, and he has shown he still has a little gas left in the tank after many pegged him for a decline.
While the Texans aren't likely to deal Chubb considering they're trying to contend for a playoff spot, it isn't crazy to think that could happen with the ascension of rookie running back Woody Marks.
Trading Chubb becomes even more likely if the 2-3 Texans don't improve soon.
But Chubb doesn't figure to move the needle all that much. He's only averaging 4.3 yards per carry running behind a Texans offensive line that ranks 27th in run-block win rate. Throwing Chubb behind a Chiefs line that ranks 30th in the same exact category doesn't won't help much.
And therein lies the issue with the Chiefs. Their problems running the football are more of an offensive line issue than a running back issue, thus adding Chubb isn't going to help get Kansas City out of the mud.
