TL;DR

  • Kansas City Chiefs are 6-6 after losing to Dallas Cowboys, facing playoff elimination.
  • Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars have tie-breaking advantage over the Chiefs.
  • Patrick Mahomes states the Chiefs must win every remaining game to make playoffs.
  • Chiefs are making unfamiliar avoidable errors, making a winning streak difficult.

It's official. The Kansas City Chiefs are in dire straits.

Standing at 6-6 and facing significant difficulties in their quest for playoff football following a 31-28 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, there's a genuine chance the Kansas City team won't make the postseason in 2025.

Considering that the teams positioned above them, the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars, possess a superior win-loss record and hold the tie-breaking advantage against Kansas City, in addition to facing the Houston Texans next, another team ranked higher than the Chiefs, the outlook appears grim.

And for Patrick Mahomes, he knows the unfortunate position he and his team find themselves in.

"At the end of the day, you got to win every game now and hope that's enough," Mahomes said. "We're going to play a lot of good football teams coming up, and if we're going to make the playoffs, we're going to have to win them all. That's got to be the mindset when we step into the building."

The Chiefs find themselves in a difficult spot following their Week 13 defeat.

Without question, if there was a squad you'd imagine capable of winning out from a 6-6 standing, it would be the Chiefs, but at this moment, that appears to be a difficult feat.

Naturally, even following their defeat by Dallas, some individuals will maintain confidence in Kansas City's capacity to recover and achieve a winning streak, and the organization has merited such confidence.

However, the truth is gradually becoming apparent, and we're observing the Chiefs exhibit behaviors that are unfamiliar to us, like the avoidable errors that hampered them in Dallas.

Playoffs are still on the agenda, and as Mahomes said, the Chiefs have to win every game now.

No ifs, ands, or buts. That's what is required at least for playoff football in 2025.
