Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes reveals bold goal after ACL injury image

We've known for weeks that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes wants to be the starter Week 1.

That is a bold goal, no doubt.

Some think Mahomes will reach it, others think he won't.

But for Mahomes to be "game ready" in Week 1, he's going to need to practice first. And not just a week or two. But a good body of work.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Mahomes stated something rather incredible.

He wants to be practicing by OTAs.

"Hopefully be able to do some stuff at OTAs, then get to training camp and hopefully be able to do a lot there," Mahomes said. "I'm excited for the process; it's a long process, but I'm excited for it."

Chiefs have to be cautious with Mahomes

That's a given, right?

And especially so with Mahomes wanting to not just be back for Week 1, but to then start and play.

Granted, even Mahomes stated the doctors said he can be ready for Week 1, but we never know how the rehab process goes.

There could be setbacks, or Mahomes might not hit the checkmarks the doctors want from him in the proposed time frame.

So, it all works together.

But one thing is for sure: Mahomes is focused on getting back as quickly as possible to help his team.

He's just got to do it the right way, and the Chiefs' medical staff will be making sure he does.
