As harsh as it sounds, when Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down with the ACL injury against the Los Angeles Chargers, he has since become the forgotten player on the roster.
Moved into the background for the past three weeks as he has dealt with the surgery and now on the long road back to full health, we haven't gotten much of an update since Mahomes has been rehabbing.
Until now.
With the Chiefs' season officially over, we won't get any updates for a while, so take what head coach Andy Reid has said about his quarterback and cling to it, Chiefs fans.
“First of all, he's doing great for just being three weeks out or so,” Reid said. “He'll go ahead and most likely stay up here (in Kansas City) for the majority of the time rehabbing. He's been just in there grinding. That's what I can tell you.
"Right now, he's in that early process where you got to really hit it hard; it's not necessarily a fun thing to do every day, but the important thing is that you show up, keep coming back for more, and he's been doing that.”

Mahomes targeting Week 1 return
In the days following Patrick's injury, we heard several media people state that Mahomes would be targeting a Week 1 return from his ACL injury.
Others, like Robert Griffin III, think Mahomes shouldn't even see the field in 2026 to get himself 100 percent healthy, both physically and mentally.
This isn't a small injury, and we have seen players come back quickly, but they are nowhere near the player they used to be.
So, while Mahomes' desire to come back fast is admirable, maybe tap the brakes on a Week 1 return.
Chiefs Kingdom would rather Mahomes take the slow approach and be fully healthy than rush back and potentially be half the player he used to be.
