One round.

That's the difference between the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets completing a trade that would've sent star running back Breece Hall to K.C., and the fact that they didn't actually get it done.

ESPN's Nate Taylor reported this on Thursday:

"According to a team source, the negotiations between the teams broke down over the compensation for Hall, who is in the final year of his rookie contract. The Chiefs offered a 2026 fourth-round pick for the 24-year-old, who the source says wanted to join another team after fellow teammates cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams were traded Tuesday. The Jets, though, wanted a 2026 third-round pick."

There's a lot that's hard to figure out at the NFL trade deadline.

If the Chiefs really wanted Hall, why wouldn't they go a single round earlier?

On the flip side, why wouldn't the Jets trade Hall's expiring contract away for a fourth-round pick?

It's a non-move that could have an impact everywhere.

At the top of the standings, the Chiefs are weaker at RB than they would've been with Hall.

At the bottom end, Hall could actually push the Jets out of the No. 1 spot in the draft if he happens to have a big game somewhere down the stretch.

It's certainly a weird outcome. The NFL trade deadline doesn't quite reach the outcome levels of some of the other leagues.

Instead, there are stories like this, of deals that didn't quite get done.
