As harsh as it sounds, the NFL has moved on from Week 15, and in doing so, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his ACL injury are moved into the background.

Given the season the Chiefs have had, it was a cruel way to see the 2025 season come to an end with Patrick's injury, coupled with being officially eliminated from the playoffs.

We have heard from head coach Andy Reid on Patrick's injury, but we haven't heard from offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.

He was on the sideline when Mahomes hurt his knee, and on Thursday, when asked about it, he laid it all out.

"You don't know exactly what the deal is, I could just see the pain in his facial expression, I could hear him," Nagy said. "There's a lot of emotions that go through you instantly, you have a lot of hurt. Not knowing, but kind of knowing when you see it what you think could happen or what it could be, and you certainly know he's not going to be in there on the next play.

There's a lot of emotions, it's very emotional in the locker room after the game, it's a feeling I'll never forget."

Chiefs to move forward without Mahomes

As cold as it sounds, the Chiefs and the NFL have moved on from Mahomes' injury. With three games left in the regular season, Kansas City is now trying to end the year in the best way possible.

Gardner Minshew gets his chance, albeit in unfortunate circumstances, to put himself in the show window for teams next season. A veteran who has been around the league for a while, Minshew, if he plays well, could be the next veteran quarterback to get a second chance as a starter in 2026.

The NFL waits for no one, and Mahomes, who is the face of the league, is finding that out now, with the Chiefs, like many other teams, eliminated from the playoffs, not deserving of much media attention.

Even if you are the best player on the planet.
