At the end of the first half in Brazil, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made the most impressive field goal of his career by raw difficulty.
The Chiefs needed to go to their fire drill routine with less than 10 seconds and the clock running.
Butker and the entire field goal team got on the field and got the ball snapped with two seconds on the clock.
The field goal was from 59 yards out, and Butker was true.
One of the more impressive things I’ve seen on a football field in quite some time. Harrison Butker with a bomb from 59, but the precision and hustle in between equally as tough in my book.pic.twitter.com/yFvKivBjCK https://t.co/DeqPmaHjO9

Early in the second half, though, his right leg wasn't as pure.
The Chiefs scored a touchdown on a Patrick Mahomes run to pull within 13-12. They just needed an extra point to tie the game.
Butker instead missed it to the right of the goal post.
Rich Eisen's call caught some social media attention: "Wide right."
Butker is known in some circles for his politically conservative comments in a graduation speech at Benedictine College in 2024.
Eisen seemed to be calling out toward that.

Regardless, it was an odd sequence of kicks.
Butker made an incredibly high degree of difficulty field goal.
Then, able to take much more time, he shanked the extra point.
Kickers matter, that's for sure.
