The Kansas City Chiefs know full well where they sit in the AFC pecking order, and it's not fun.

Having lost to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving 31-28, which dropped Andy Reid's team to 6-6 and further behind in the race for a playoff spot, some have already put a line through Kansas City's playoff chances.

Granted, the franchise would likely need to run the table and have other results go their way, but there is a small chance of playoff football.

And for Reid, as the teams embark on what you could easily call a playoff run at Week 14, it's all above the shoulders.

"As coaches, we got to make sure we're putting the guys in the right position, make sure we're mentally prepared to play four quarters," Reid said. "Then, have a positive attitude, you're not going to hear a lot of positive from the outside coming in, so you got to make sure you know where you really sit and the opportunities that you have sitting in front of you.

"I know our fans understand that, there's still opportunities."

Chiefs' AFC playoff spot under threat

The biggest question many have is, can the Chiefs win out? The answer is, of course, they can.

But will they?

Facing the Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos, and the Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City needs to at the very least sweep those teams.

That is a tall order, especially if the team keeps shooting itself in the foot as it did against Dallas.

It was yet another one-score loss for Kansas City, making its record in those games now 1-6 for the year. Reid knows there are opportunities for his team down the stretch, but are they good enough to take advantage of them?

If playoffs are to be achieved, they have to be.
